Erica Baran Fasano

Erica Baran Fasano is a fine artist and musician residing in Batavia, Illinois.  A Fine Arts graduate from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, Erica spent 15 years living in the city of Philadelphia as an artist and musician. Now residing in the Chicagoland area, she has taken a step back from the city life focusing on her art and music in the quiet West Suburbs of the Chicagoland area.

Erica's paintings are inspired by her natural surroundings, guided by intuition, influenced by the subconscious, driven by states of meditation and a love of vivid colors.  She takes photos that inspire impressions and abstractions on canvas, glass and wood surfaces. Her process of discovery while working is what consciously keeps the work subjective yet, intuitive, translating unique visual experiences and personal discoveries to the viewer. She combines her specialties in abstract, impressionism, contour line, musical influences, and photography into a style that is unique and in demand in the Chicago area and beyond.

Her work is also featured at X.S. Talent, London and the Liquitex Inspiration websites. Erica has been sponsored with an artist grant to study Jungian Psychotherapy and Amazonian Shamanism in Synthesis with Jungian scholar, C. Michael Smith, in Iquitos, Peru in March 2015.  The purpose of this grant is to further explore and investigate these themes in her work. Erica continues to show and sell her work locally throughout the Chicago area as well as nationally.

Artist Statement

My abstract work is guided by intuition, influenced by the subconscious, driven by states of meditation and a love of vivid colors, shapes, sound and line renderings. I enjoy the process of discovery while working and like to keep the work subjective and intuitive in order for the viewer to have his/her own unique visual experiences and personal discoveries.  Through my creative process, I’m deepening my interest for the intuitive connections between color, sound, shape, and line renderings that are current influences in my work.

As an electronic musician, DJ, and sound healer,  I’ve been deepening my love for sound by exploring the healing influences it has by on my work.  I make live recordings of my personal collection of instruments that include crystal and tibetan singing bowls, digeridoo, shanti chimes and shamanic and steel drums.  I take these recordings and listen to them separately while painting.  Then, I take the individual sound recordings and arrange them into a complete musical composition and listen to it while painting.  I’m making deeper connections cognitively and intuitively between the sound frequencies and the color choices, as well as the shape and line rendering choices for each painting.

I’m committed to learning more about how each of these concepts are reciprocally influencing each other through my artistic processes as a visual artist and musician.  I’m equally interested in understanding how the viewer responds and connects to my work through his/her own visual experiences and personal discoveries. This inspires and excites me to keep pushing boundaries within myself to create work that helps people heal seeing the world, inside and outside, through each other’s eyes.
